A well designed questionnaire is vital for collecting high quality data. This course is all about providing participants with the requisite understanding of the basic concepts, principles, and practices of questionnaire design for the collection of useful and meaningful data. By examining a wide range of pitfalls, this course explores ways to assess the effectiveness of existing questionnaires as well as how to write successful new ones. It combines suggestions from the research literature on questionnaire design with a very practical approach. Common errors in the wording of individual questions are examined as well as how to combine individual questions into a meaningful questionnaire.
Expected Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Design, develop, tailor and evaluate questionnaires of medium to high complexity that most effectively answer the objectives of research studies while minimizing sources of measurement errors, cost, timing and other issues inherent in various modes of survey designs and data collection methods;
- Use relevant interviewing techniques and other strategic techniques that could impact the quality of the information collected, as well as various strategies for designing optimum surveys;
- Conduct hands-on experience in designing questionnaires to meet data needs.
