Course Description

Impact evaluation helps determine the achievement or otherwise of a programme / projects set objectives or test alternative strategies for achieving those results. By so doing, it strengthens evidence base decision making and strategy development. This course is therefore designed to enable participants know what to evaluate and why; how to evaluate; and how to implement an evaluation. It provides participants with a core set of impact evaluation tools and discuss their application to real-world operations.

Expected Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Evaluate the impact of complex policies, programs and projects;
  2. Design an impact evaluation, including the ability to build the ‘programme theory’ of the intervention;
  3. Choose appropriate methods of impact assessment and judging the quality of impact evaluation designs prepared by other evaluators;
  4. Understand current debates on impact evaluation methodologies and evidence-based policy making.
